Wedstrijdverslag GEKO Rally van Wervik: Andy Rowe Opgave na opgeblazen turbo
Hull driver Andy Rowe retired from yesterday’s (June 18th) Rally van Wervik after SS5 with a blown turbo, after suffering a recurring misfire on the early stages.
Rowe said “We took the car out for a run the night before the rally and something didn’t feel quite right then, the car didn’t boost as well as it normally does. A misfire developed on SS2 and after SS3 we decided to change the plugs at service. By SS4 the car was significantly down on power and by the time we got to the start of SS5 it was smoking badly. We had no power at all through that stage and had to pull over to let Vanneste and Van Parijs past, so at the end of the stage we retired the car.”
Rowe’s co-driver, Cat Lund added, “Obviously we are disappointed, but it is the first mechanical failure we have had in 20 rallies, so the car has been amazingly reliable. Now it’s time to build a new engine for Rally van Staden in August.”
The Mitsubishi Evo III crew had started Rally van Wervik in the lead of the Flanders International Rally Challenge (FIRC) with maximum points, following their sixth place overall on last month’s ORC Canal Rally. Now the challenge is wide open, with French newcomers Beve/Deschildre taking top honours, with Andy Daw and Andy Thompson scoring highly on this round.
